I was a little worried about getting this model for an eight year old. However, he is VERY good at Legos and is very detail oriented. So, for his birthday I went for it. He did have some help getting it together, but it only took two days (according to hin) and Ive looked at the completed model and its a wonder. He has learned a lot about the details of the mission from building and studying about it, and Im glad I took the risk. Lego is to be complimented at their careful packaging and bit-by-bit construction that all goes together so nicely. I heard of a group of adults who put this model together in four days ... but dont push anyone on a project as complex as this one. Im glad I went with it. Other models I looked at are interesting, but require lots of gluing, fitting, and finishing work, and I like doing that. Our modern day kids seem more oriented to prefab construction! A moderately expensive Lego set, but a really good one.

The directions were ok, but there were places where I had to remove 1 or 2 pieces of a part I previously installed, just to be able to get the new section to fit in place. Page 108, diagram 154. I removed that brown piece in the center to lower the piece on Page 111, diagram 157. It helped to get the other side pieces to snap in place better. On page 149, diagram 240, and page 150, diagram 241. That was another one that needed adjustments. There were a few others, but those 2 stuck out the most for me. Its a fun build. But keep in mind that adjustments may be needed while building it.

By far the most challenging of the space series! So much fun to build. Great addition to my classroom

Three days. That is all it took for my husband to complete this. It was a success. Lego does not disappoint

this kit is amazing. You will be amazed at the level of detail that went into its design and how good it looks when put together. It is realistic, beautiful, and a pleasure to build. Its also larger and more imposing than I anticipated, reflecting the grandeur of the original Saturn V. The included figurines really help to put the scale of this rocket into proportion. It is one thing to have seen those spectacular launch images, but to see a physical, realistic model is quite another! Its modular, so you can easily snap the first, second, third stage, and CSM apart. Theres even room for the LEM inside the Lunar Module Adaptor! The CSM separates as well allowing you to replay the major maneuvers of the Apollo mission. The model also includes a good looking LEM and 2 set-pieces so that you can mount and display the LEM with the astronaut figurines on lunar soil (US flag included!) and the CM after its ocean landing. I can think of only a few minor improvements. (1) The Launch Escape System is difficult to separate from the Command Module, meaning that you cant easily dock the CM with the LEM (one of the pivotal maneuvers of the Apollo missions). This is however possible with the LEM that is intended for the ocean landing set-piece (also a niece touch BTW!). The CM on the rocket is also just one single piece that is completely white with no detail whatsoever. This may approximate how it looked at launch time, but even a few small surface details would have made it look much better (2) The LEM is not easily mounted in the Lunar Module Adapter. It needs a stud that is already used by lunar set piece, but the kind of quick release snap used to keep the stages together would have been better. Overall I would say a LOT of pieces and detail went into the (often invisible) internals of the first, second, and third stages, but the the CSM, LEM, Launch Escape System, and Lunar Module Adaptor are not as well developed. Thats a shame because those are arguably the most interesting parts of the rocket. That said, this is an amazing kit and you will not be disappointed. Thanks Lego!

I bought this for our rocket scientist 20 year old son for Christmas as a surprise. He worked on it straight away and finished building it either that night or the 26th. This thing is pretty massive. I came downstairs to find that he had placed the completed rocket on top of my kitchen cabinets with his finished International Space Station Lego kit. :)

The Saturn V is well worth the $120 price tag. With it you get nearly 2000 pieces, and upon completion of the build you are left with an exceptionally beautiful Lego model. At this price point, I was surprised at how tall the unit was, towering at over 3 feet tall. The build was straightforward, and the booklet that comes with the set has easy-to-follow instructions. I would highly recommend to any Lego fan.
