Has some issues. First of all I highly recommend getting a video signal booster between your vcr and this device. I had a lot of weird flickering going on. After calling tech support, they said my vcr signal was probably weak and the device does no amplification. Also this makes random ticking noises through your speakers. Doesnt end up on the video but is annoying. And the most annoying part...the final video can be choppy at times even when you dont see it while you are watching. No doubt a product of digitizing the video. Usually at the beginning of the footage, its all black and white and jumpy until the the device figures out how to track. Very annoying!!!!! Hindsight I wish I could have used a DVD/vcr recorder before they discontinued them.

I had a Diamond video capture device and VHS to DVD 3.0 that served me well for MANY years. Only recently did the Diamond stop working. I started looking for the replacement. Since I have been happy with the VHS to DVD product, this item caught my attention. I can tell you that the hardware that ships with it was quickly set up and is recognized by the system with no issues. The new version of VHS to DVD is a bit dumbed down, but it still does a great job of capturing off my DVR, VHS and other sources I have tried. I recommend it as a replacement for any old hardware / software you have for video capture.

Initial review: Worked well the first day of use. On second day, it was DOA. Works good when working. Serious reliability problems. Revised review: Amazon sent a replacement immediately. Replacement has worked flawlessly for over 40 video tapes. Changed my rating from 2 stars to 4 stars. I would recommend to a friend.

Well made and was simple to connect to computer and VCR. Operations were tricky and I believe if the company had video instructions on their website would help the consumer to use their product to its fullest. I will have to say, I believe I have actually managed to rescue two priceless family VHS videos by converting them to DVD. Fortunately a friend had a VCR I was able to borrow to make this transfer. Honestech VHS to DVD was worth the cost. The final transfer to DVD played right away on my DVD player. Unfortunately I wasnt able to use their Editing option as it either didnt work or I just couldnt figure it out. The Easy Wizard Mode is very basic so I stuck with that.

This software is so easy to use. I cant say it enough of how easy it is to save all my old vhs tapes to my computer. Some of the reviews made me have some doubts, but I can honestly say they were unfounded. I have a very basic, no frills, desktop computer and a vcr player, and the set up using the supplied software disc, and voila. Converting all my vhs tapes to my computer, using windows media player, I can burn them to dvd. It really is that simple. I havent used the advanced mode, but Im looking forward to trying it and also using the audio mode where I can convert all my cassettes to cd. Most of my videos are 25 plus years old and some have started to bleed color during playback so Im glad I finally got around to doing this. I couldnt be happier!

First off, I want to say this company has excellent customer service. A human in the United States answered the phone and was extremely helpful and they have late business hours and work weekends too. Very impressed! I only gave this product 4 stars because as you play the tape on the software it distorts the picture quite a bit which is very irritating and disappointing. They suggested I clean the heads inside the VCR which I admit hasnt been used in years so it could be dusty. Havent tried that yet. Their software also adds some audible noise and distorts the sound quality a little. I guess I could pay a professional company up to $10 a tape to do it but Im not willing to spend the money. Program is super easy to use! I used it with Windows 10 without needing any updating of the software or drivers.

This met a need for a fraction of the price sending it out to a service for conversion would have. The bad thing is you HAVE to have a VHS machine to convert VHS movies (this is a duh for many of you, but I had no idea how this worked). My in-laws asked me to convert their VHS movies of my husband and his brother to DVD. We borrowed his grandmothers VHS machine. This kit consists of two main things: a conversion box and software. The conversion box connects to your line out on your VHS machine and there is a USB cable that goes from the box to your laptop or computer. The software installed easily. I like that you can see the movie playing on a little box in the software. I thought I would just be licking my finger and sticking it in the air to see when I thought it was time to stop the VHS so this is really handy. The quality of the video is just OK and be careful about the volume you choose. I really wish I had just kept it at 0. I put it to 1 and I think it created some white noise that is minorly annoying. Not sure if that noise was already on the VHS, though, honestly. My father in law had a movie he was in as an extra and wanted me to make a DVD of the VHS he taped from TV. The sound didnt have the white noise which makes me think maybe it was just the amateur video of my husbands Eagle Court of Honor that caused it. At any rate, the quality is ok and good enough for preserving memories. Not HD by any stretch, but our kids can now see daddy with a full head of hair and can hear him. Its pretty neat for me as I had never seen any videos of my husband that young. Mission accomplished. I only took off a star because the quality is just so-so, but that isnt fair since VHS quality is just so-so. I would rate this a 4.5. We used this on our laptop running Windows 7 with no issues. I am not even close to an A/V professional. I am a homeschooling mom with an engineering degree, but I dont think that degree gave me any leg up on anyone else in hooking this thing up. I am glad we bought it. I guess the only bad thing is you pay $60 and then copy your 5 DVDs from VHS and just have this useless device and software :). But, $60 is much cheaper than the quote I got from one of those services!

I have been able to convert many VCR tapes to DVD. Quality is not the best, but it does the job.

The Advanced Mode is VERY complicated. Dont have the time to learn it much less use it. The Easy Wizard would not work at first, after spending a couple of hours. Had to contact tech support. They werent sure where problem was. They Did spend a lot of time trying to resolve the problem. Suggested I trouble shoot on my own. I Later found an update patch for 8.0 , using Google, that SPECIFICALLY addressed the Easy Wizard problems I was having. Patched to 8.01 or 8.1. Works great now, for simple unedited transfers.

Impressed with the way this converter software and device has evolved from version 3 that I purchased 2 plus years ago. This new (Latest) version software makes video transfer a breeze in all ways. Well worth the price for all it does and all that is included. Great for converting VHS as well as 8MM video to newer formats to stream, burn to DVD or watch directly on TV..And yes, shipping was as always super fast.
