It works fine when the device is close to the router, once you are a good distance from the router the wifi signal is not present. Given that this is an exterior plug it probably has better weather shielding compared to indoor models, that might decrease the effective range of the wifi. Had to return mine since it didnt serve my purpose, will stick with my programmable plug for now until better wifi is made available. Maybe incorporate an external antenna into the case design like a smartphone which might improve wifi reception?

Bought a few of these years ago and had a good experience. I bought another one to replace one but this one wouldn’t connect. Kept. “Looking for server” so I called customer service and they gave me some bs about “I’m level 2 and this requires a level 5 technician” I know the trick because I called several times and got the same responses. The trick is “when we bump you to level 5, it’s a $55 dollar one time fee”. Makes no sense- that’s more than I paid for the actual device and wreaks of fraud. I asked what they would do and one said they would connect to it and upload a patch to the device. But how can they upload to the device if I can’t connect to the device? Super disappointed and I ended up returning. The other 3 still work so I’m not putting 1 star but buyer beware now

I got this item to control the outdoor ground/pathway lights in my backyard. I have and old power supply for the lights but all it can do is turn the lights on or off. I need adjustment for daylight savings time. So instead of buying a new power supply. I got one of these. It works great! I now plug the power supply into this and then into the outlet. The app is good and easy to set up. With the app there are many different options for turning lights on and off. I cant try the Alexa part of things because I dont have one. Sorry. Great product would buy again if need to.

Super handy device. It does the job, but has a few hiccups along the way, hence the 4 star rating. We have a guest and an internal network on an Asus router. For some reason, the guest network was visible to the WiOn device, but the internal network was not showing up. It took me a bit to realize that I could manually enter a WiFi network (SSID and credentials). Once I manually typed in the network info, the WiOn connected fine and has been solid since. The app is good, and does the job. The interface is a little clunky, and does not look like an iOS app, but it gets the job done. At this time, it doesnt appear to have any integration with Apples HomeKit. We use this for our Christmas tree. Whipping out my phone to turn the tree on to show it off sure beats having to climb under the branches, getting sappy, and potentially knocking off ornaments.

Some of these reviews are really bad. I guess its the same with most everything - people throw away instructions then cant figure out how to reconfigure. Dudes have all the time in the world to get on here and leave a bad review but not enough time to google how to fix their issue or search for instructions. Well Im here to buy a third one! These work great. I use the ECO Plugs smartphone app and Alexa. -BroSun

Bought my outdoor connector 2 years ago. It controls my 100+ feet of outdoor Christmas lightening and decorations for almost 2 month of the year (late November to early January). It Works flawlessly. This year I was surprised that after being disconnected and stored away with the decoration; the unit was able to reconnect to the home wireless network without me reconfiguring it. I plugged in the outlet, it blink rapidly like searching for the wireless SSID and connected without a problem. I like the application too. I have it installed on my IPhone and IPad devices. I find it to be user friendly and very flexible with the editing and scheduling of events. I also own one of their light switches which I used to control my front porch lighting. I have been using the switch every day for almost 3 years. It has lost connection to the home wireless 2 times, due to prolonged power outage in my nations capital city. To reconnect it to the home wireless, I just pressed the reset button in the unit with a toothpick, the unit blinks blue for a few it then stops blinking and the light becomes a solid blue indicating that the unit is connected to the home Wi-Fi. It is a well made product. I will buy it again and recommen it. NOone has payed/given me anything for my comment.

These work great; have purchased 3 of them, the first one about 2 years ago, and its still going strong. To be fair, though, I do live in Southern California, so the unit hasnt lived through much rain and moisture, but has stood up well to extreme heat. I have one unit set up with weekend sunrise/sunset timers for our patio string lights; I used another with time on/time off settings for our holiday lights. Gifted the third unit to our neighbors who, every night and morning, were pushing and pulling their holiday lights cord into and out of an outlet; just couldnt bear to see them do it anymore. Only negative is the apps interface, which could use some serious updating and streamlining; its straight outta 2010. However, with the various timer options, its pretty much set-it-and-forget-it, so the app shouldnt be needed after the initial set up. And initial set-up itself was fairly painless; just followed the simple instructions.

This review is for the Wi-FI version of the outlet, NOT the standard remote control (non-Wi-Fi) version. An outstanding product. Unboxed, plugged in, connected to wi-fi, and was using the app on my phone in about ten minutes. Pros: * Easy to connect to wi-fi * Has a variety of settings that are easily accessed through the app on my iPhone: Programmable Timer, Countdown Timer, Astronomic Timer, Vacation Random, and Security Random. The Programmable Timer (a multi-day timer) is easy to set and adjust. * You can give a custom name to the device(s) that you are controlling. I called mine icicle lights. * Has two outlets. Its worth noting that the two outlets can not be controlled independently. Whatever settings you use for one outlet have to be used for the second outlet. * Has a simple on/off switch on the app so I can easily override the programmed settings. * A good value for the cost. Cons: * Havent found any so far. Setup: * MY WiOn 50049 Outdoor Wi-Fi Outlet (2 outlets), is connected to an Airport Extreme router. The WiOn app is installed on my iPhone 6s. Works very nicely. Used to connect my icicle lights to my wi-fi network. No more having to go up and down the stairs to turn them on and off or fiddling with a clunky digital timer or reprogramming the timer when the power goes out. One thing to note: When the app searches for the router, it can take a few minutes for it to find it, depending on the speed of your mobile device.

While the instructions on this item suck, it does work! For anyone else that is trying to set this up, when it tells you to connect your device to the wifi, it ACTUALLY means to connect your cell phone to the WiOn device, via wifi. That means, when the device is blinking, go to your devices wifi settings and look for your WiOn device there. Select it and then it will let you connect to it, for the initial setup. Life would have been much simpler, if those instructions had been given up front. I had to figure it out on my own. Im using this to control a new fountain that I built and it works perfectly. I just tell Alexa to turn on the fountain and both the fountain and light come on right away.

I have had this working over the winter to turn on the outside lights on my patio. The construction of the outlet is pretty good, it connected right up and had zero issues working with the amazon alexa. The reason I gave it three stars is the app. The outlet has been deleted from the app 3 times already on it own. All of a sudden alexa says the device is not responding and it is because the outlet is no longer recognized as a device in Wions app. I have to go back out and set the outlet up again, then put it back in the alexa app and everything works again. Its extremely annoying, but I guess if I would have spent a little more I wouldnt have to reset my outlet every so often.
