It took me about an hour and a half to install and if I had to install it again I could do the install in about half the time. The install directions were O.K. I live in an area that had Lift Masters installed at about the same time, and it is interesting to note that they all failed at about the same time do to the nylon gears wearing out. It cost several of my neighbors almost $200.00 for a service call. The parts were shipped to me in two days, fast shipping.

Ok, I watched a video and it summarizes the simplicity of replacing this part. [...] however, I had screwed around with a lot of adjustments before concluding that the reason for the chain repeatedly popping off the gear was a part needing replacement. My guess is that it got out of wack because of the door freezing to the floor and the strain on the unit getting to open it. That being said, paying attention to the trolley thingy in the unit that moves when the chain arm is moving up and down on the track is necessary. When the door is down and the moving bar is down there with it, look to see that the trolley thingy(inside the box) is all the way down its track. If not, remove the little white gear at the bottom of the new part you just replaced (remove the white clip to get it off) and this will allow you to turn the little gear that moves the trolley. Rotate it until it goes right up against the down limit. Also, thread the screws into the new part to establish an easier path for the screw before trying to install this.

Easy to install and a real moneysaver too... and it went in quicker than a new opener could have been installed.

Exactly what my liftmaster door opener needed. Changed it out in about 15 minutes and my door is operating again. Good directions and all the parts needed to fix it. Make sure you use the screws to mount it to thread the new unit before installing. They are self tapping and its easier to install after cutting the threads..

I called a local reputable garage repair shop and they wanted to charge $140-$160... And they tried to sell me a new unit for $400 with installation. Im glad I said no. I read the reviews... Watched a couple of those YouT*be videos... And ordered the part. It arrived quickly in 2 days. It had descent instructions, but honestly I just glanced over them and got the job done in a 1 1/2 hours. ( It took that long because of the screws) Mind you that I have absolutely no experience at this! The 2 difficult parts were: 1-removing the screws to get the old gear/sprocket out. It was very tight to get your fingers and tools in.Use a 5/16 ratchet. 2- putting the screws in the the piece. As another reviewer said (or it was on a video), First , you have to Tap the screws in. I gently used a hammer, then screwed and unscrewed it in to create the threads. Run thru this first before you try to install it in. That was it. Research videos online on the Liftmaster Gear and sprocket kit. Dont waste $140. (btw, that garage repair place also wanted to sell me a part for $50 after I said I was going to do it myself...Ha!)
