> 3 dayMy 15 year old Sears 1/2HP garage door opener stopped working due to the large plastic gear inside the unit shredding. I ordered this gear & sprocket kit on a Wednesday evening and it was on my doorstep Friday just in time for me to do the repair over the weekend. The kit was fairly easy to install (you can find videos on the web). The two recommendations that Id make is (1) if possible remove the garage door main unit so you can work on a bench rather than up on a ladder, and (2) before installing the gear & sprocket assembly, use one of the 3 mounting screws to cut threads into the 3 mounting holes in the new gear & sprocket assembly. On this last point, the new assembly has 3 holes that align with 3 mounting holes in the main chassis. The holes in the new gear & sprocket assembly do not have threads to accept the mounting screws so youll need to use one of the mounting screws (self-tapping) to cut new threads. Doing this ahead of time will make it easier to assembly the gear & sprocket assembly to the main chassis, especially since 1 of the screws is in a harder to reach place. Overall, it took me about 2-1/2 hours from start to finish to do the repair.

> 3 dayNo one looks forward to having replace the gear on their garage door. However, if yours breaks, this is a good kit. It includes all the gears, bushing and grease. There are some good installation videos on youtube that walk you through the process. While the videos are 45 min, it took me closer to 2 1/2 hours (mostly because I kept dropping screws and spending time looking for them). Performing the replacement is probably mid skill level for a DIY and only requires a modest tool kit. I hope you never need to replace your gears, but if you do, this is a good choice.
