Lixit Critter Space Pod, Perfect for Small Animals (Small)

I got the large one but it seems kinda small. Both rats can get in at the same time although usually its just one at a time. They didnt get in it when it was hanging but they like to climb in it when I put it on their cage platform

This is a great little hideaway for my single male rat, Bug. Rats love to pile into the same nest, so I think 2 males could probably fit comfortably, or perhaps 3 females. Bug is not a chewing kind of rat, but I suspect that other rats who do chew could probably do some damage to the pod, but it would likely take awhile. I love that the pod comes apart for easy cleaning, and the plastic material doesn’t retain odors. I place a piece of old t-shirt in the bottom of the pod just to add comfort for Bug, but it’s not really necessary if you don’t want to do that. I haven’t yet tried hanging the pod from the roof of Bug’s habitat, but he’s very happy with it on the floor of his cage. Once Bug grows a bit more and I can put him in a larger cage with wider bar spacing, I plan to get a second pod that I will suspend from his roof. Another plus is that I’m happy with the color of the pod I received, violet on top and teal on the bottom.

My 3 rats LOVE this. Its hanging in the top of their cage. Its by far their favorite place to snooze and my favorite b/c its easy to wipe out---no washing machine!!! However, it needs two things changed to become a 5 star item in my eyes. 1st it needs to be larger. My 3 rats insist on sleeping together and its quite a tight fit. I bought a second one and put it as an over flow but they still love to sleep together. 2nd it is kinda weak to hold so many ratties. I used zip ties to attach it to the top of our cage for stability. Not a real big deal but worth mentioning. Over all its def the best product Ive purchased for my boys to snooze in.

I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on how much our two rats loved this large Space Pod. They slept in it. They ate in it. It was the place to be! Sadly, our last rat just passed away yesterday and we have retired from rat-life for now (it is too very emotionally draining when they go). Thanks, Space Pod, for giving our rats so much enjoyment over the years. I would certainly not hesitate to buy one of these again.

I put this in the cage with my 2 Fischer lovebirds. They were scared to death of it at first, but I had taken out a cloth material cuddle hut and I wanted them to have a place to hide. Well, it took a good 2 weeks before they accepted it and even went inside it. Next thing I knew the female had a clutch of 6 little lovebird eggs. The moral of this story is dont give your birds this space pod unless you want to mate your birds. I did not want to mate them (they are brother and sister) so I had to dispose of the eggs and take the Space Pod out of their cage for now. Too bad, but I dont want anything to add stress to my female bird as it is not good for her. However, if you do WANT a nest, this space pod works well for lovebirds.

Update: I bought a second pod when I got my male rat two little sisters and although hes since passed away, the pods are going strong. They survived the baby stage of chewing somehow. The girls are almost two years old now and just sleep their days away in them now. Still highly recommended for any rat owners! If the clips get chewed off or you need to lower the pod, use thin metal shower hooks sold at dollar General / dollar stores. Works perfectly. This pod is perfect for rats! It is very easy to clean, the curve is great for sleeping rats and still comfortable enough for them to lounge around while awake, too. Its very easy to put together and take apart, it isnt really rigid so it has some give for putting it in or taking it out of cage doors (I have a Rat Manor bought at Petco). Hanging it from the cage seems to work best for my rat, as he likes to be up high and look out at everything in the evenings. He hasnt chewed it, but then again he isnt a chewer anyway.

I bought this space pod about 2 years ago and my rats still love it. My rats are now 3 years old and are starting to show old age so I moved them into a horizontal cage with no levels. They were quite distressed by the move, chittering and trying to get it. I couldnt figure out how to comfort them. On a whim I transferred this space pod out of their old cage into their new and they immediately climbed in and napped. Im watching them groom themselves right this minute in it. Its super easy to clean (either wipe down with cloth or take it out of cage and rinse) and it is very easy to set up (either hanging upside down from top of cage or let it stand on own legs). The only thing I would mention is that it definitely would not fit 3 large adult rats, my ratsies are on the larger side (each over 500 grams) and when they squeeze in together there are paws and tails sticking out! They nonetheless make it work.

I have 2 dumbo rats and they absolutely LOVE this thing! I have them in a 40 gallon critter cage/tank so I cant hang it up but they love it sitting on the floor of their cage. I have tried a lot of different rat houses for them and my girls have given this a 5-star rating! Mine is a very pretty purple and blue instead of the yellow/green that is in the picture but it matches their cage accessories wonderfully. Both girls fit in it just fine and snuggle there together most of the time. 04122011, okay, so I upgraded the girls to a very large, multi-level wire cage so now the Pod hangs from the ceiling and they love it even more! I posted a pic of the girls in their pod.....

Easy to clean, comes apart & goes back together easily. Okay to hang upside down, or set on the floor.
