> 3 dayUpdate: 7/1/2022 - The cycle history has been restored in the latest app update so changing my rating and would go back to definitely recommending PumpSpy. I have used a PumpSpy for the last 3 years and up until a week ago, I would have recommended it to anyone. It has saved my basement from having water in it more than once. The feature that saved me from having water was the Cycle History. I could watch trends in real-time to see when my pump was running, how long it needed to run, estimated gallons of water it pumped, and total cycles for the day. I could also look at history from previous days and use that data to see if the cycles were getting more frequent or if they were getting further apart to indicate the water table was dropping. PumpSpy removed most of the functionality from the app on 6/3/2022. I can no longer see each time the pump runs, estimated gallons, or data from the previous day. Now it only tells you the number of runs for today and the last time it ran. You cannot see how much time elapsed between runs or an estimated number of gallons removed. With those key features being removed, I can no longer recommend this product. For the price, it is not worth the purchase if those features are not restored in the next app update. For me personally, it no longer has any of the functions that I originally purchased the PumpSpy product for and I have never experienced a company release such a useful product and then remove features after the purchase to cripple its functionality.

21-12-2024Others have indicated challenges setting up the WiFi connection but I did not experience any issues. I set it up using an iPhone 8 running iOS 12 and it took about 5 minutes to get it online. The instructions were short and easy to follow. I also found it reconnects to WiFi quickly (within 1 minute) when unplugging and replugging back in. Plugging the device into the GFI outlet is as simple as it can get although the alignment of the center hole to secure to the outlet/junction box didn’t align with my outlet (maybe it’s my particular outlet?) Not sure if others have had this problem but it is secure without it and don’t feel there is any likely risk of it falling out. As others have indicated the outlet you plug your pump into (on the device) is ‘loose’ so you’ll likely need to use some electrical tape or zip tie to make sure it doesn’t fall out. I’m running a two pump setup so the main pump gets plugged into the ‘monitored’ outlet of the device to get data on number of cycles run and run time; I found the app to refresh with cycle data almost instantly after the pump cycles off. The high water sensor is mounted above the main pump float level and slightly below the battery backup pump sensor level and when testing I found the phone app alert to come through basically instantly. I’ve found the alerts (high water, normal water, lost power, power restored) from the phone app to be basically instantaneous. You can also setup text message alerts, which are redundant with the phone app alerts, but I found them to be on a lag compared to the app alerts at times but good feature if you want to alert other cell phones that don’t/can’t have the phone app. I tested a loss of power to router (i.e. no WiFi) scenario and it took about 10 minutes to receive the alert that there was no connectivity (the alert is triggered because the manufacuter’s server hasn’t received a communication from the device). Others have indicated issues with the connectivity after having it installed for some time, too early for me to tell but I’ll update my review if I experience that down the road. Overall I like that this device will alert me instantly when the power to the outlet is out (if the GFI trips) and when the water level breaches the high level sensor (say if my main pump fails) because both of these scenarios would indicate my battery backup pump is running and that means I have a window of time to get things back online. I also like that it will alert me within a reasonable time (10 minutes) when the device doesn’t report into the manufacturer’s servers because it likely indicates a full house power outage and that my battery backup pump is running. I didn’t give it 5 stars because of the shortcomings with the mounting hole (to the outlet) and because of the loose fit of the pump plug into the device.

> 3 dayMine quit working after two years. I recently upgraded my mesh network nodes and setup a new SSID (network name) in the process. That required me to press the button on the PumpSpy in order to put it into “setup mode”. I did that and the ring around the outlet turned amber as it should. However, soon after the light went out and never came on again. It’s dead. I opened a ticket with support and explained everything. They had me email them my receipt, etc. Now, they want me to ship it back to them at my expense so they can determine if it needs repaired or replaced. They also sent me a list of things I need to include with the package. They want me to include the ticket number, but also a description of the issue I’m experiencing. And if it’s determined that the device is functioning properly, then they want me to pay for return shipping. Ummm, no thanks. How about I save us all the trouble and drop it in the trash. I’m just going to buy some water sensors for my SmartThings and call it a day.

> 3 dayUpdate 2018-12: The PumpSpy unit didnt handle a power surge/spike so great. The unit reported the power was off properly, but then didnt report the power was restored even though it had been. It was a very short spike/outage and luckily I was home when it occurred. A simple unplug/replug of the unit reported power restored, but this would be a bit concerning if I didnt have other devices to check the power and pump state. Still overall happy with the unit and waiting for the first sump pump failure to get more info on how well it works during that. Initial: Initially, I had quite a few issues getting this setup. Being an IT person that can normally sort out these issues made it even more frustrating. But then I found the secret page three of the instructions with the manual setup steps and it went well after that. Tip, be patient waiting for the outlet to change from red/yellow to green. Says it will take a minute but actually took a few to link up and be happy! Ive attached Page 3 as an image and it can be found on the PumpSpy website with a bit of digging. Now to see how it handles issues, our pump runs continuously and typically fails every 12-18 months. Hooray natural springs under the house...

> 3 daySetup in 5 minutes per directions. Will send direct phone notifications and sms. Only thing negative is it must use 2.4 ghz wifi (not compatible with 5.1 ghz) however 2.4 ghz works better at longer distances and through walls or across floors. Wifi signal is strong even though my router is on 1st floor and unit placed in basement. Monitors power, high water level float sensor, sump cycles and time sump on per day, and even estimates gallons pumped out per cycle and total per day. Can monitor multiple pumpspy sensors at multiple locations as well. Running app on android. 3 years later the unit has been solid. For example today halfway through tropical storm Ida, weve pumped out 700 gallons so far, with the main sump running every 8 seconds (thanks Pumpspy)! Note I would still recommend a hydrostatic backup sump pump (requires no power). During a prior storm with flooding we lost power. Pumpspy notified me immediately. Power was down for 8 hours, and the hydrostatic pump saved us.

> 3 day2018/15/11. Very disappointed. First device was DoA. Amazon support was good in setting up the free return, but I wasted a lot of time trying to make it work in the first place before giving up and calling Amazon. Second device was purchased and received. It works, but now its evident that the App is defective. Beyond setting up the App and pairing with the device, I am unable to click through to the device data. Lots of time wasted trying to sort this out too. Ive even tried getting to the data through their website, but cant get beyond clicking the login button. PumpSpy Website has no information on this problem. Their auto response to my email to their support indicated Ill have to wait until the next day for a reply. Ive called Amazon support again, and at least theyve answered the phone. Unfortunately they were unable to help. They called the manufacturer but, of course, there was no response. NOTE: The last para of their Ts & Cs At any time prior to renewal, PumpSpy may, upon 30 days written notice, establish new prices for Monitoring Services 2018/15/11 UPDATE: I received an email reply yesterday evening from PumpSpy explaining that the website log in is not yet functional. It would be a good idea to display a proactive message saying just that. The sender of the email had also linked my device to the App at his end and I now receive data. Now that I’ve reviewed the data, I am questioning how they are estimating the amount of water pumped, since nowhere in the set up have I been asked to input the model of my pump or even minimally it’s hp. Additionally, although the data clearly shows power interruption on two occasions (at the moments I was installing it at the pump site, and later uninstalling it to get the S/N from the back of the device) at no time did I receive a pump power outage alert on the programmed alert cell phone numbers. I have raised my review from one star to two because, given last night’s PumpSpy’s email, support has been fairly responsive.

> 3 dayThis may be expensive, but its worth it! I needed something to tell me when my pump was cycling on and off. This is the only product I can find. It is well worth the expensive price tag. It does exactly what it says it supposed to do and I have had zero issues so far. It is very easy to set up and very easy to navigate the software. ** One month later_ the high level alar is stuck on. Water level never got high and even without the high level sensor the alarm is still on. With the alarm on the u it will not record how many times the pump cycles. Looks like it was too good to be true***

> 3 dayAs of June 2022 I would have said not to buy but they brought back features. Background: I have 2 sump pumps in my house that run between ever 30 - 60 seconds each. This coupled with a very high amount of Iron Ocher in the ground has resulted in sump pumps dying every 6 months. They can fail in a couple different ways, always on or never on. I bought this unit because it can detect and send text messages when it detects either of these. Major issue 1. It stopped sending text messages when either of the pumps fail. I opened a ticket and they said they were looking into their carrier still nothing. * July 2022 update brought back features. Major Issue 2. After a software update they have removed any cycle history and you can only see how many its run today. I have anywhere from 1000 - 2000 a day per pump no I can only see how many as of the time I look no totals or history. I bought these because it would keep track of how much its running and save a total from previous days and I could see if there was an issue. * July 2022 update brought back features. Major issue 3. The plug socket is actually non standard and does not grip the sump pump plug which causes the plug to slip out and or spark due to poor connection. I had to manually mash the plug ends together to get it to stay in. Issues 1 and 2 are reasons for 1 star. If they fix their software I can live with issue 3 and I would rate it a 5 star.

21-12-2024I’ve had this product for several years now. A sump pump failure during a storm makes you find solutions, and I chose this, as my basin is too small to accommodate a backup pump. Physical installation was a snap. I can say that *when it works* it’s a nice product. I’d get reports on how much it was cycling and when, and I’d also receive power outage alerts which would be helpful. The problem is - this unit would go offline. Frequently. We occasionally get power drops where I live. Sometimes PumpSpy would come back up. Much of the time it wouldn’t. Restoring PumpSpy to operation was seldom easy. I often couldn’t log into the app as it would refuse my credentials. Since I use a password manager, I feel fairly confident that I wasn’t entering them incorrectly. Then at some point it would accept me. Then there are the times I tried to reset the device and start from scratch. Connecting it to my network would often take several time consuming attempts until it was successful. Finally, I use a security monitor on my network. It played nice with the literally dozens of items on it. Except for PumpSpy. Apparently this device is the lone item in my inventory to use a risky unencrypted connection that could leave my network open to malicious actors, and it would refuse to let PumpSpy phone home because of it. So…after several years of use, I have to say this product is not worth the price. I could live with every flaw this product has to offer except unreliability. I have too much to lose to depend on this frequently failing device, and I have to find another solution. My suggestion is that you should too

> 3 dayLong term update: PumpSpy stopped working after 3.5 years. The ring went dark and Pump can no longer connect to Wi-Fi. I unplugged PumpSpy for a few minutes and plugged to a different AC outlet. It was still dead. I originally rated 4 stars. I removed 2 stars for 1) short life. For the price, I expect it to last longer than 3.5 years. 2) I contacted customer support and got no response. Pros: - Email and text alerts work. - Detailed cycle info - Last Cycle time, Last Cycle Length, Today Cycles count, and Cycle History. - Reliable Wi-Fi connection. I have not lost a connection since it was installed 2 weeks ago. - Connection menu on app shows useful Wi-Fi signal strength. - High water sensor (with alert) - Power outage and restore alerts - Illuminated ring green and red colors are useful for quick status check at glance - Works with a pump controller FloodFree which constantly draws about 0.06 mA when the main pump is not activated. I was afraid the low current draw of the pump controller would falsely trigger Pump Spy as a main pump cycle. - Cycle duration time reported is accurate. - Monitoring is FREE! Cons: - App Edit location always crashes on my phone with the latest Android 9 update. - Alert history cannot be deleted. Users should be able to delete old alerts and alerts generated when testing the device. - No setting for Gallon/minute so that an estimated gallons for cycles is more accurate. - I had to add the device manually to my phone running the latest Android 9 by following the included instructions Note: The instruction for adding device manually is not available on Pump Spy site.
