Sure, it’s loud, it’s bulky, it’s annoying to have to stop and empty the bucket of nasty water/refill the clean water, it’s kind of a pain in the butt to get up and down the stairs. And yet, this carpet cleaner works SO much better than the cheap ones you can buy at Target/Walmart! I got tired of renting Rug Doctors and getting charged way too much because I kept it two or three hours past my return time and decided it was much more economical to buy my own (and less of a hassle). I initially planned on getting the rug doctor but decided to do a little research and ended up buying this one because it was about $100 cheaper and as far as I could tell they were really similar in function and results. I ended up being much happier with the Bissell when comparing both brands. Bissell vs. Rug Doctor: 1. The Bissell fits under the outer rim of my pool table (standard 9’ table), which the rug doctor did not. Believe it or not, this makes a huge difference in a room with a pool table! 2. The Bissell is easier to deal with the water containers - both the clean and the dirty buckets. 3. The attachment is easier to attach to the Bissell than the RD (granted, neither machine makes this task hard). 4. As loud as the Bissell is, it still seems a lot quieter than the RD. The rug doctor did a weird rumble when releasing the solution that made the entire room feel like it was vibrating - It felt like a loud bass on the first floor when the RD was being used upstairs! 5. Bissell will clean going both forward and backward. RD will not. This seems like a no-brainer, tbh. 6. This last one is a bit subjective, but it seems to me that the Bissell simply does a better job overall and gets the carpet cleaner than the RD. 7. Bissell feels lighter (I don’t remember the actual weight of either machine). Honestly the only advantage I can think of for the rug doctor would be a slightly larger water/waste tanks, meaning you have to refill and dump the tanks less often. However, I somehow seem to get more area cleaned with the Bissell amount of water than I did with RD. At the very least, I would say they are near even as far as area coverage per tank water refill. In conclusion, both products are far superior to the other options (non-commercial) on the market, but this one is the best of the two. TLDR: The Bissell is cheaper and (imo) works better in many ways than it’s main Rival, Rug Doctor. I highly recommend this product. *Pro Tip: DON’T pour your dirty waste water out into your bathtub! Especially if you live with pets. If you do dump it in the tub, you’ll be digging out the clumps of mystery hair gunk that stopped up your drain with a coat hanger shortly afterwards.* Your welcome. :)

If youre like my husband and I, youve gone over and over buying this in your head. I get it, the price tag is a lot. But do it. We looked at so many reviews, so many shampooers, so many videos and everything led us back to this machine. We have a senior Great Dane and a senior Toy Fox Terrier, so accidents happen. After a single use, the difference in carpet feel and smell is phenomenal. Nothing humbles you quite like the first dirty water flush, Holy smokes. One or two passes has removed stains that we just became accustomed to, not even a professional cleaning crew could remove the stain, but this bad boy did. The three sample bottles of solution was super helpful and each one is the equivalent of two tanks. It is heavy to lift and push so please take this into consideration. Its hefty but for a good reason and Ive worked up a good sweat each round. Do read the directions and be prepared to do two cleanings of each carpet. (Not because its ineffective, but because I feel the first go round gets the surface grit up and then really deep cleans on the second go.)

Used for some pretty deep stains, unfortunately. Did a good job, not sure they could be fully removed, but it took 85% of it out. Ging to try again. Pretty easy design, and unlike a typical floor model, this one has CAPACITY. Large water tank is separate from waste tank, so you can go longer between changes. Recommended.

I’ve owned this product for 2.5 years now and have been very pleased with its high level of durability and strong suction ability despite nearly weekly usage over this time. I have learned a few tips that are worth sharing: Cleaning Solution: Don’t waste a ton on the cleaning solution. Do buy a bissell approved nonfoaming solution but you don’t need to add it each time you treat the carpet. I don’t notice any benefit having Febreeze in the Solution as opposed to spraying the carpet after treatment. Pre-treat Carpet: Don’t treat dirt laden carpet if you can help it. You’ll take twice as long and you’ll have thick mud at then bottom of your top bin to clean later. Instead, Vacuum thoroughly first before starting the green machine. Spray stains first and let them soak before taking a hand brush to them. Consider going over the carpet first with warm water in the machineand then use the bissell soap added with it and then go over a third time with water alone. Use soft or filtered water. You’ll notice the carpet is softer on your feet after treating it with water without the soap or very little soap. Stains: In areas with stains pretreat with Folex a nonfoaming stain remover or add folex to the water. Careful with the folex if it’s heavily soiled carpet. The solution will turn dirt and dust into neutral on contact. Therefore spot treating carpet you don’t intend to fully clean will leave unsightly lighter spots looking like stains. The folex website suggests adding folex:water 1:4 or 1:6 to the machine. For tough stains my suggestion is scrubbing with the Magic Stain Remover Stick and lifting with some warm water. Hot water by the way isn’t recommended as it can actually set some stains into carpet. Carpet Edges: The machine shouldn’t be driven straight over carpet edges for two reasons. One, the rollers might pull up the end of the carpet or on a rug edge cause it to curl. Or the machine will sound high pitched and stop suctioning. You can turn it off and then on to resume. I found that going over carpet edges at a very slight angle prevents both of these problems. Drying the carpet: I notice the House gets very muggy after a carpet treatment. Open the doors and windows. Then run the heater and AC alternately 3 times for an hour and sleep well the first night instead of waiting for the next day for the carpet to get dry. Spray position: Keep in mind the spray comes out the machine just in front of the rear wheels. This means you’d do better to spray driving forward and suctioning on the return pull back towards you. In heavily soiled areas I go slowly, there is no reason to do a whole lot of superficial sprays and vacuums when I can spend more time and do a deeper clean. I’ve had only one problem with the machine. It was a leak at the clean water indicator. I had it serviced under warranty by an approved repair shop with no hassle. I didn’t start using the hand wand until about a year in and found it very helpful for stained areas. It seems like a hassle to use but it gives you the ability to put some elbow grease in certain spots without wasting time on a whole area. You can buy the head attachments when they wear down pretty cheap 6.39 on Amazon. The other trick is using a steam iron just for the steam before scrubbing and vacuuming an area.

I bought this machine because we are moving and I wanted to clean my carpet as we moved out. I thought my carpet was clean but it picked up a lot of dirt. It did a good job cleaning the carpet. I like it didn’t leave my floors overly wet and had good suction power.

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. The carpets had seen better days of cleanliness. The old Hoover had died under warranty but they no longer make that model. So we had the purchase price in hand but no carpet cleaner. What to do? What to do? WHAT TO DO? Research and buy a different cleaner was the only recourse short of paying a service or renting - both so gauche and demeaning. As a self-made DIY amateur, the best bang for the buck based on good old Google searching and the fantastic fanatic reviews on amazing Amazon, led me to the BISSELL Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine Professional Grade Carpet Cleaner. The first drawback I experienced was sticker shock; I had never spent this much on a carpet cleaner before. The old favorite dead one was easily $100 less but alas it was no longer available to me - unrequited. Sticker shock be damned, on with the purchase after weeks of deliberation and ever-so-gentle prodding from my lovely wife. The order was placed. The dice was cast. Would it measure up to expectations? Would the detracting reviews be more correct? The mystery was afoot; only delivery and a test run would provide the answers. The BISSELL Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine Professional Grade Carpet Cleaner arrived. I could barely contain my excitement to unpack and test the beast. Unpacking and assembling for use was very simple. To my chagrin, in my zeal to start the test run, I failed to remove the two pieces of cardboard and the bottle of cleaning fluid stored in the recovery tank. The oversight became obvious on the run to the commode to empty the test collection. A bonehead move to be sure. How could I have completed a test run without using the provided fluid, you ask. Simple, I had other cleaning fluid on hand because I wasnt certain any came with the BISSELL Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine Professional Grade Carpet Cleaner. Despite the potential of being asked to surrender my MAN card, I admit I DO read instructions and manuals - just not all at once - and definitely not all (obviously) prior to operation. Sure enough, it was in there. So, here is the first bonus and positive point about the BISSELL Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine Professional Grade Carpet Cleaner - it comes with a small bottle of concentrated cleaning fluid - most likely enough for a once-over of several rooms. Other operational observations: The BISSELL Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine Professional Grade Carpet Cleaner delivers as described in most of the positive reviews. It does a good job cleaning the carpet. Dirty carpets will require more passes with it - the dirtier the more passes required - or perhaps more patience than I have in laying down a pre-treatment or applying the solution and waiting a bit before collecting. My carpets dried in good time; I didnt notice any excessive wet or damp spots. I measured the capacity of the dispensing and collection tanks on the BISSELL Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine Professional Grade Carpet Cleaner before use - perhaps a bit overly scientific or some might say anal. Then during use I observed that the collection level was just a little lower than what was dispensed. I am very happy with this. Multiple passes helped pick up water but only to a point. There is a small view port on top where you can observe the fluid collection; when it stops spotting youve picked up about as much as you can. On the negative side, it is a little loud. Im no audiologist but I dont think hearing protection is required. Your significant other will be able to sneak up on you while it is in operation. If you have a weak bladder or queasy bowels, appropriate adult protective garments may be in order. You can yodel, belt out opera, rock, or your favorite nursery rhymes whilst operating and probably not notice how bad or good you really are - but keep in mind that it isnt so loud as to drown out your voice so that others wont notice - they will - and they may comment. If you have thin skin keep this in mind. One must pay attention when seating the dispensing and collection tanks. Only once did I fail to do this. I almost immediately noticed the little observation port wasnt showing any incoming fluid. I stopped and checked - re-seated the tanks and went right back to work. The BISSELL Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine Professional Grade Carpet Cleaner is a tad cumbersome to move around but during operation I had no difficulties. During my initial marathon test run cleaning, my my back was negatively influenced - it started to ache. I attribute this to my extended test run time and my propensity to not take breaks. It is also cumbersome to carry up/down stairs for storage. I am an average male. Capet cleaning is my household duty; my wife has not had the opportunity to play with my toy yet. Overall, I LIKE it. Alas, I cannot love the BISSELL Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine Professional Grade Carpet Cleaner as my carpet cleaning heart love will always be with the no-longer-offered Hoover it replaced.

This. Thing. Rocks. What more can I say? You arent going to get any better than this at home short of going onto carpet cleaning specialty sites and buying an 800-5k machine. The suction is great and rooms are dry within 2 hours. This thing is so strong (and the rolling brush is such a good design) that it actually pulled up embedded fur from a pet that hadnt lived in the house for 2 years. (backstory: we have had a black-haired dog for 6 months and have lived in the house for 2 years (no dog prior to Gilbert). I vacuum multiple times a week. The previous renters had had a white dog over 2 years ago.) Mind you, I thoroughly cleaned the carpet when we moved into the house with a rug doctor. And yet, two years later I was pulling up white fur. Vacuuming regularly with a shark and a dyson for two years did not pick this stuff up. I think it works. :) I was appalled and pleased in equal measure when I used it. It was so GROSS to see all that stuff.... brown/charcoal water full of fur, dust, dirt, sand, grass...you name it. By the same token, so pleased to know that was all out of my carpet. Further grossed out by the fact that it was almost as dirty the second time around....and yet further pleased. You get the idea. Having rented a rug doctor three different times to do multiple rooms each time, I am quite familiar with them. I have to say that I love using this Bissell SO MUCH MORE. Pros when compared to the rug doctor: 1.) It is more comfortable to use (handle pivots at the bottom in stead of the top). 2.) I cannot overstate how awesome it is to be able to go forward and backward. The RD only drags backward. It is more comfortable, MORE EFFICIENT, and more intuitive to move both directions. If you dont believe me, try dragging your vacuum backwards, and then locking the head up, tilting it off the floor to go back to the top of the stroke and then doing a whole room that way. 3.) REMOVABLE TANKS. REMOVABLE TANKS. REMOVABLE TANKS. Good luck if you finish and have leftover solution in the RD. Good luck. Also, makes it super easy to transport and clean. 4.) Did I mention being able to move FORWARD & backwards? 5.) Spinning brush head actually pulls things up out of the carpet fibers instead of juts agitating them. Just like your vacuum. While the agitating bar might be a unique feature of the RD, Im not so sure that its working in RDs favor. About the only reason I could recommend that type of brush would be that it is probably more gentle on carpets. The black clumps that people complain about with this machine are real and they largely consist of carpet fibers and pet hair that were pulled up with other debris mixed in. If you vacuum adequately, these clumps are few and the machine sucks most of them up anyway. 6.) Flow indicator: that little spinning thing is super helpful to show you when youre out of solution and it works just like its supposed to. 7.) THIS MACHINE IS MEANT TO BE SERVICEABLE! THAT MEANS YOU CAN BUY REPLACEMENT PARTS IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG. This is a HUGE bonus. If something breaks, you dont have to scrap your whole machine. Professional through and through. And those parts are easily attainable right on Bissells own website. Try that with your Waldemort special. Wont happen. Other pros include the fact that it folds down and is easily store-able, has a hose attachment which does work well and is amply long, uses less solution than many other cleaners (youd be surprised how little water is actually necessary to still clean well), the tanks are large enough to do a whole room. Long story short- Im in love with this machine and so happy that I purchased it. Also, 5 year warranty. Epic. Update a year later: I have now used this multiple times in two different houses and have used it to clean my cars upholstery as well as couches. Excellent every time. The hose is plenty long for doing your car (if you move it around to each door) and couches. Every time I clean our carpets, they stand up much more and are noticeably revived. This rolling brush perks up your carpet much more than a normal vacuum (Dyson or Kirby). Still as happy with it as the day I bought it!

I bought this because I have 2 small dogs and they like to pee on the carpet. I always clean up the pee when it happens, and I pre-treated with spray carpet cleaner and let sit for about 5 minutes before using the “Big Green”. The first time I used it, I filled the cleaning tank to the fill line and added two capfuls of cleaning liquid. I only cleaned one small bedroom fully and a hallway, and then spot cleaned in a few other places. I quickly realized I did not need that much cleaning solution. The 2nd time I used it, I used 16 cups (1 gallon) of warm/hot tap water and only one cup of cleaning solution since I planned to only spot clean some pee and vomit. I still had atleast half of the cleaning detergent left over. I say this because you don’t need to waste the detergent and only plan on enough for the job you are doing. Overall it did a really nice job cleaning and I was very pleased with the product. The photos show where my dog ate “toadkill” and then puked it up later that day. There is some shadowing in the photos, but there is no stain left after cleaning. Pros and cons listed below: Pros- cleans carpet very well, easy to use, easy to maintain, great suction, carpet dries quickly, the hose works great on stairs and upholstery Cons- super heavy to carry up/down stairs. I take all the clean/dirty reservoirs off and then carry just the machine. This reduces weight a little bit. - this thing is HUGE and I haven’t figured out where to store it yet- the machine costs a lot, but I think I will save money and have cleaner carpets in the long run, so look at it as an investment. - again this machine is heavy and I can only use it for about 15 minutes before my back starts to get uncomfortable. - you do need to spend about 5 to 10 minutes cleaning the machine after each use to keep it in good working order. - it is hard to aim the sprayer on the hose directly on the surface, but if you hold it about 3 inches away from the surface, it is easier to spray the hose correctly and you can see exactly where it sprayed the cleaning solution - both times I used it I vacuumed first, but there was wet lint that collected on the surface of my carpet. I just bent over and picked it up, or continued to go over the spot until it was suctioned up, so not a big deal. Overall, I love this machine and will most likely use it for spot cleaning every week, and full carpet cleaning quarterly. Definitely recommend for pet owners.

I loved my Hoover but decided rather than rent a commercial cleaner I’d just buy it and the price seemed reasonable. Did some research and the Bissell rated well. It cleans well and pulls the water out so the carpet is dry within 2 days. It will pay for itself. I’m pleased.

UPS delivered the Bissell Big Green cleaner last night and I put it to work immediately. Just to give you a little info, we do NOT have any pets and do not wear shoes in the house. I have a dyson, and vacuum my house at least once a week. As such, the condition of my carpet is above average compared to homes with shoes worn in the house and have pets running around. Before I get into the results, let me describe the packaging. The machine is per-assembled. The box is quite heavy and requires two adults to move it. You can tell this product is well constructed. In addition to the main machine, it also comes with a hose with a hand wand to clean furniture and staircase. As stated by other reviewers, Bissell included a bottle of deep cleaning solution in the compartment. So make sure you remove the cardboard and the bottle of cleaner from the machine. I dont see how people can start using the machine without remove the items, as you have to fill the container with the cleaning solution. DUH! I have steamed clean the carpets once in the last 8 years. This Big green puts that rented cleaner to shame. I was surprised how much dirt, dust and lint the big green pulls up. Every time I push the Big Green forward, I see a lump of black lint/dust/dirt trailing it. It is just amazing how powerful this machine is. The carpet looks and feels very clean after a single pass, and there is minimal dampness. I turn the fan on and the carpet dries up in about 15-20 minutes. My thermostat tells me the humidity in my house is about 39%...just in case you are wondering... As I mentioned at the top, this machine is quite heavy. Adding the cleaning solution to the container does not help ease the mobility of the machine. Pushing and pulling the machine is not a problem as the wheels are well constructed. However, if you are trying to change directions (side to side), youll need to put some muscles into it. I own a few rental properties. In the past, I have called professional cleaners and it normally cost me about $180+ to clean 3 rooms. I think this machine is going to save me a lot of money in the long run. I highly recommend getting the Bissell Big Green Deep Cleaning machine if you find yourself paying professional cleaners to clean your carpet and furniture more than once a year. I know I will be steam cleaning my carpet more often from now on... ***UPDATE*** I recently evicted tenants from my 3 bedroom rental property. These boys were practically as irresponsible as you can get. In in the six months they were there, they pretty much trashed up the apartment. The carpet took the brunt of the abuse. There were dark black patches on the carpet, and the stench from the carpet was almost unbearable. It amazes me how someone could live in such conditions. The condition of the carpet was so bad that my wife wanted to just replace it. I told her to give the big green a chance... So I bought a bottle of Bissell Professional Deep cleaning with Febreze Freshness and Renewal formula and went to work. Initially, I used a dyson vacuum to clean up whatever dirt we could see with our eyes. If you have ever used a Dyson, you know it does a phenomenal job on carpets. I filled up the Dyson canister twice just for the living room. After using the Dyson, the carpet looked like it had a glimmer of hope, but the stench was still overwhelming and the black dark spots were even more visible. I ran the big green through the ragged carpet, and I could practically see it pull up dirt and the liquid it was lifting off the carpet was black! I ran the big green back and forth in at an extremely slow pace with the spray trigger on all the time. The before and after was startling! Even my wife was extremely surprised by how effective the big green is. Even with the spray trigger on at every pass, the carpet was barely damp. The powerful suction and rotating brush pulled dirt out from the very bottom of the carpet. After letting the carpet air out for about 15 minutes, I made another pass with the Dyson. I then made another pass with the big green. This time, the extracted liquid was not as black, but it was still able to pull a lot of dirt out of the carpet fabric. I believe the first pass acted like a pre-treatment, and with the second pass, it was able to loosen and extract more dirt out of the carpet. After the second pass, the carpet looked fresh and very clean. It no longer had the stench, and the carpet lives to see another day! There is NO DOUBT in my mind, that a professional cleaner will NOT be able to do as good of a job as the big green given the condition of the carpet. Just by this job, the Bissell Big Green has paid for itself multiple times!!!
