> 3 dayUnlike some other machine, a seven year old Macbook Pro can still be pretty viable. I was fine with the machine, but bumping into storage limits. Mine was the last model before they went to NVM drives, but upgrading the storage was still way cheaper than replacing the system. I wish this product was more competitively priced, but its one of the few that handles power management correctly so I was OK spending a premium to keep my (formerly premium) system working well on battery. The upgrade itself is super easy. The tools are included and videos make it comfortable. Once the bottom is off, theres literally one screw to the upgrade itself. I went with the version that included the external case out of laziness. I could have made a(nother) time machine backup and wrestled with restoring that over WiFi, but putting the old drive in the external case and booting into System Recovery to copy the drive and I moved all 128GB in probably ten minutes or so. I didnt have to manually mess with partition tables or otherwise think about it too much. The upgrade was easy and the result is flawless. I now have an external SSD thats handy for moving projects to and from client machines.

Greater than one weekThe 250GB SSD in my MacBook Pro had become a seriously-limiting factor. I really needed about 1TB. This kit solved that problem. Installation of the new SSD in the MacBook Pro was straightforward with all the necessary tools and instructions supplied. No difficulty with the installation. The only problem I ran into was that the old SSD did not make good contact with the connector in the enclosure provided. Initially my MacBook Pro did not see the old SSD as an external drive (used to transfer all your old data to the Mac after the new disk is initialized). I found that pressing lightly on the SSD card in the enclosure solved the problem. A couple of strips of tape used as thin spacers between the SSD and the top of the enclosure solved the problem. Were it not for this one small glitch, I would have given this kit 5 stars. Regardless, this is an excellent value and has allowed me to put off purchasing another laptop for another year or so.

> 3 dayThe instructions are minimal and I didnt see anything more on the companys website but if you are knowledgeable enough then this is a slick upgrade. Essentially you remove your old SSD from your MacBook using the provided screwdrivers and install it in the provided external case. Install the new SSD into your MacBook and close it back up. Plug the external drive into the MacBook through a Thunderbolt to USB 3 adapter in my case. Run the MacBooks Internet recovery to install a new copy of OS onto the new drive and the pick migrate after install to transfer the old data and programs onto the new drive. It all worked perfectly for me with no problems. The new drive is maybe 20% faster than the old one. With USB 3 the migration was fast for my 400GB of data at around 200-400mb/s.

> 3 dayLove this speedy new 1TB drive! I had the stock 512GB SSD from Apple for the last 7 years and my machine was running slow and out of space. OWC to the rescue! Install was a cinch and my laptop is faster with much more room. Thanks OWC!

> 3 dayI have a Macbook Pro Retina model A1425 and bought this SSD to increase my disk space; as advertised it was a very easy DIY installation (it took me barely 8 mins or so to do it), and after it was installed my Mac is ever running faster. So to me, this was a great purchase. Additionally it was shipped pretty fast, so two thumbs up for this item and the seller.

Greater than one weekI upgraded from a smaller capacity SSD to this one. The installation process was very straightforward. By buying the kit with the external enclosure for the old SSD, the transfer process was just a matter of waiting. As in all upgrades, back up your original hard drive, but this could not have been easier.

> 3 dayI replaced the OEM 128GB SSD which worked fine. However, when my battery failed I decided to upgrade since I had the case open anyway and needed additional storage. The new 1TB SSD is faster than my OEM and the additional storage is a great bonus. Reloading Catalina OS X was easy from backup. All told, it took me about 3 hours to do the installation and reload the operating system and my data. I am very happy with this purchase.
