I was never a fan of upright vacuums but after hearing and reading about this APEX I couldnt resist. The power nozzle on my central vac just wasnt doing the job of picking up short hair from four dogs on area rugs (I have hard wood floors) without 4 or 5 passes. After vacuuming, I had no desire to spend another half hour untangling my hair from the brush roller. So this Shark APEX Duo Clean with Zero-M caught my eye. It arrived a day after I had vacuumed my entire house so I was anxious to assemble it and use it on the rugs already vacuumed the day before to see just how much my central vac didnt pick up. Assembly was a snap as was disassembling. Didnt even need to read the directions to assemble. BUT DO READ them BEFORE you start vacuuming because youll discover, as I did, it wont turn on unless the wand is in a reclining position. I was certainly impressed with the suction power it had. Shark wasnt kidding. Its powerful. Picked up even more hair and ground in dust/dirt on the area rugs vacuumed just the day before! The self-propelled feature with swivel nozzle is a MUST because without it Atlas couldnt push it. However, found it to be top- heavy and cumbersome until I removed the Lift-Away canister from the wand and held it in my left hand as I pushed the wand and power nozzle with my right hand. That configuration felt as if I was lifting weights but you cant put the Lift-Away on floor and drag it since there are no wheels. So for all intents and purposes I used it like I would a canister vacuum. I had a real workout vacuuming this way though. Despite the Lift-Away being detached from the wand, the vacuum doesnt get under the low-to-the-ground furniture and if it does manage to, it doesnt get under very far. The vacuum is noisy as one would expect of an upright. The Lift-Away was a snap to detach from the wand and the three vacuuming modes: hard floor, carpet/low pile and thick carpet/area rug were easy to switch. 30 ft cord is convenient! And my long hair strands didnt get stuck in the brush roller! Nice feature. Bottom line, this is a powerful vacuum that I will use on my area rugs by detaching the Lift-Away canister to make it less top heavy while holding with my other hand as I get a work-out! I will respect the limitations this vacuum presents in my home and vacuum the hard wood surfaces with my central vac floor brush attachment. Still happy with my purchase as it has lots of great features!

This vacuum is great. Extremely powerful, easy to use and great functionality. This is my second shark vacuum and I will never buy anything else. The performance is second to none. I literally just got done vacuuming with a Dyson that I borrowed, and then used my new shark. It literally filled up the entire can. I love these vacuums.

We purchased this recently upon moving into our new home. Were trying to keep it as nice as we can with kids and pets. This is by far the most expensive vacuum weve ever had. There are definitely lower priced options that will do the job. Just not as good as this. Maneuverability - This is a very robust vacuum. It pivots surprisingly well for its size. You really can work around corners and furniture easily. The head on this vacuum is thin enough to reach beneath the furniture. It vacuums right up to the baseboard in either direction. Im happy with it. Ease of use - The cord is adequate in length. The dust collection compartment is easy to empty. Our 12 year old is proficient with all of the functions. After all, it really is his vacuum. The lift away is pretty simple to do. The light on the head is bright enough to see in the darker corners and behind furniture. I like the light quite a bit. The crevice tool and that other thing that we use on the furniture are easily installed and removed. They both work well. Suction power- Possibly the most important aspect of my opinion on this. Im impressed. I can tell you that your carpet is dirtier than you likely think it is. Our son vacuums upstairs every other day with the exception of the master bedroom. I do that one myself. This thing gets dust out of the carpet when the carpet looks clean. Its really remarkable. In summary - 25 years ago I never would have believed that Im on the Internet reviewing a vacuum cleaner. Im well within the clutches of adulthood though and this is what its come to. Seriously though, Im pleased with this purchase. It was an expensive item for us. We had a lower priced shark before this. It still works and has been a good one. Hopefully this one will have the same longevity. Only time will tell. If youre looking to take your vacuum game up a level I would recommend this one. We do really like it.

We had a Dyson that was on its last leg. It was only 6 yrs old and had been to the vac dr. Lol I wish I had a video unboxing the Shark! My son and I opened it. He said…umm where’s the vacuum? We assembled it and I went to town vacuuming! It was GREAT!!!! You won’t be disappointed. There are three settings. For the wood/tile surface, the roller basically dusts as it vacuums and eliminates that hue on dark wood floors! It was my nemesis!!! This is huge! The middle setting is for low pile carpet/rug. For this one, LOW! Pile (almost an indoor outdoor pile rug), the vac almost drives itself! It takes off. We have two dogs and one sheds like crazy!!!! I had vacuumed with the Dyson before hand. Well…the Shark pulled so much junk out of my rugs!! Dirt/hair/dander/super fine dust! The third setting is the high pile. We have a crazy shag rug. It’s super high! While it doesn’t drive itself, the Shark is able to handle the rug! I think this rug is what killed the Dyson. Whoops. Love the light on the front. The ability to remove the canister and make it mobile! Ease of vacuuming under furniture! No more moving my couches out. I can vacuum everywhere now! The suction is so strong I’m always sucking up dog toys! So be careful there. It does a great job vacuuming furniture. The cord is plenty long! Love you can clean the filters. I could seriously keep going. Lol my entire family LOVES it! The only negative I can say is the bin is on the smaller side. But that is definitely not a deal breaker. Enjoy your new toy!

Unfortunately very heavy and difficult to maneuver while vacuuming. Otherwise it’s a good machine that will last a while like my previous one. I’ll need to decide whether to get another model or tough it out for the next 5 or more years with this heavyweight.

The Shark AZ1002 Apex Powered Lift-Away Upright Vacuum is a powerful and versatile cleaning machine that delivers exceptional results. It features a DuoClean system that combines a bristle brush with a soft roller to pick up both large and small debris, and a self-cleaning brush roll that removes hair and other tangled items, ensuring that the vacuum is always in optimal condition. The Apex Powered Lift-Away design is a unique feature that allows the user to easily detach the canister from the vacuum and clean hard-to-reach areas, such as stairs and tight spaces. It is also a very lightweight vacuum, making it easy to move around and use for extended periods without fatigue. The Shark AZ1002 Apex Powered Lift-Away Upright Vacuum is incredibly powerful, with a motor that delivers exceptional suction power, making it ideal for cleaning carpets, hardwood floors, and other surfaces. It also features an anti-allergen seal that traps 99.9% of dust and allergens, ensuring that the air in your home is cleaner and healthier. Another feature that I appreciate is the LED headlights, which make it easy to see and clean even in dimly lit areas. I seriously love this vacuum! It’s so easy to move around and clean! The reason I gave it 4 starts is because I’m not thrilled about how cheap the plastic is around the wheels. I’ve had this for less than 2 years and only use it in one carpeted room, and it started to crack, and each use it seems to get worse, to the point that it wouldn’t stand up without me leaning it forward against the wall. Well it fell over and completely broke, so now I have to buy a replacement part, which isn’t covered. So at least it’s only $90, rather than having to buy a whole new vacuum. Just wish the plastic wasn’t so cheap right there. Hoping it doesn’t happen again.

Have had Dysons for the last 10 years and this was my first Shark. First the Pros: The suction power of this thing is ridiculously strong, especially with the tools. This thing is solid and seems pretty well made. The zero M seems to be working fairly well thus fair, except I noticed that although hair doesnt get wrapped around the roll, it does kind of ball up and you occasionally have to pull it out, but its very easy. I surprised but I really like the LED light both on the main unit and the handle for the accessory tool. I thought it was more of a gimmick but it actually really helps you see what youre doing. I LOVE the full enclosed filter system and this was one of the most important things to me. We have dogs and a new baby at hope and I felt the Dyson just constantly sprayed nasty dust into the air. This thing collects tiny little dust particles and traps them very well and Ive definitely noticed the carpets generally smell better because of less dander and dust. This vacuum is very quite for how powerful it is which I also like. Overall this vacuum is pretty impressive both on carpets and hardwood and I love the versatility of being able to pull the container off to get under tables that I usually just never clean under. Lastly it has a really long cord which is nice because I dont have to switch outlets as often in larger rooms. Now to the Cons: Right out of the gate I was displeased with the shipping, I ordered this from Amazon originally but after 2 days it was supposed to get delivered and essentially i was told they had no idea where it was and it never showed up to the facility so I had no expected delivery date. Of course I didnt like that so I cancelled the order and actually just ran over to Best Buy and bought one in store. In terms of what I dont like about the actual vacuum, its definitely the size, shape and maneuverability. You can buy the vacuum and quit your gym because this thing is a beast. Its so powerful and clunky that its pretty tiring to use. Im a 62 190 Lb male and after doing one large room I was sweating, and my arms were very tired. So it definitely takes some strength to use this thing. There is also almost a self-propelling to it because its so powerful so again, youre kind of fighting with it the whole time. Also, if you take the canister off the stick vacuum runs away from you and is a bit hard to control. Lastly, I thought the unit came with a dusting wand to get under appliances which it does not, so Ill have to order one of those separately. Those are pretty much my only issues with the vacuum. As long as I get used to the strength it requires now to vacuum, Id say overall its one of the best vacuums Ive ever used.

I have a St. Bernard and bought this vacuum for the no tangle spinning brush. At first,I loved this. It has really good suction. A little to much for small area rugs so I use it on the floor setting for that. It worked fine in the beginning. I have had it for six months and only use it once a week as I have a dyson for quick pick up and a cleaning lady who does a great job. Im finding that the no clog brush stops running. Its not like the hair is entwined around the brush but I still have to stop way to often to clean it.

Bought this because I have two super-shedders. I can vacuum a room and within 5 minutes I have tumbleweeds. Purchased a robotic vacuum which is okay, but I wanted something more heavy duty to run once or twice a week that would pick up more than just surface stuff. Also I was very tired of cutting wrapped up pet hair out of the robotic vacuum. It was driving me crazy as I had to do that every time I ran the thing. Thought this would be the solution since so many pet owners loved it. Will admit the Zero-M is a total game-changer when it comes to not having to clean out the pet hair. This thing sucked the hair right up and not a single strand was clogging the brushes. Thats a flipping miracle considering that I have to take scissors to the robo vac every time I use it. I was really looking forward to getting this vacuum. What I did not expect was it size (which is only exceeded by its ugliness). However, I was willing to overlook the ugly factor if the thing worked great. It did work great but the vacuum is huge. First off it has a giant fat cannister on the front which makes it impossible to get underneath anything, unless you are willing to stop and deal with removing the cannister. I have too many pieces of furniture to do that. Sheesh. So when I was vacuuming the rooms were actually getting LESS clean than they were with the robot vacuum which was going under stuff. Secondly, the thing KILLED my shoulder to vacuum with. Yes I have a minor rotator cuff tear, and yes this thing only weighs 17 lbs, but when you are trying to push against carpeting it is clumsy at best. Especially when you cant get under anything. The handle is huge (tall) and feels like it was designed by a 63 engineer and not the average 54 woman who probably does the majority of vacuuming at most homes. Im 54 and the top of the handle was only about 2 shorter than my shoulder, making for super-awkward movements. Handle also has a weird design that prevents you from being able to pick the machine up easily unless using 2 hands. Last but not least it what I said about the ugly factor. Just about everyone who looked at the vacuum the day it arrived was like whoa whats that...??? The machine has a weird disproportionate factor where the vacuum part that meets the floor seems small in comparison to the rest of the machine making the whole thing look very weirdly top-heavy and the enormous, and very cumbersome canister simply adds to that problem. I have a lot of stairs and cant imagine trying to haul this thing up and down stairs. Ugh. Sorry Shark. How about putting Zero-M on one of the robotics that empties itself -- and mops too! Theres something pet owners actually need. Update: Exchanged this vacuum for the Zero-M DuoClean STICK vacuum which I like MUCH better. It also has a glitch in that it wont stand up on its own (falls over if you take your hands off it - the go around is to remove the canister / motor top part when you stop vacuuming, which sounds like a hassle but it actually pretty easy the way it is designed). Also it is only half as powerful as the upright above, but SO much easier to use.

The Shark APEX full-sized upright vacuum delivers an incredible cleaning experience in a full-sized upright. Equipped with Shark DuoClean technology, it grabs large particles, pulls in piles, and directly engages hard floors for a beautiful, polished look. Powered Lift-Away gives you the ability to detach the pod and clean under furniture and above-floor areas with the push of a button. The self-cleaning brushroll delivers nonstop hair removal. The LED lights on the handle and floor nozzle provide visibility in dark spaces, spotlighting hidden debris. With Advanced Anti-Allergen Complete Seal, dust and allergens are trapped inside the vacuum.
