> 3 dayWorks as advertised. If theres any minor nit (and its minor), the Samsung RAPID mode optimization (a disk caching utility, improves performance in some circumstances) cant be enabled in Windows 10 yet.

> 3 dayStill working great over a year later. The speed boost is pretty nice as well but the main thing is no hard drive issues and no moving so I dont worry about moving around with my laptop anymore.

> 3 dayThis is the best SSD for the price and performance, the read/write speeds are of course wonderful, installation is easy, the actual product is tiny, and it works very well under heavy stress.

17-04-2025Since installing this into my late 2011 Macbook Pro, Ive noticed a significant improvement in speed amongst my programs, as well as boot-up time. I can also run two production programs simultaneously now. For ex., I couldnt run FCPX and LR at the same time before. This upgrade literally saved my MBP. Im SOOO happy I installed it. Ive had it in for about 3 weeks now. So far, so good. It was very easy to install as well.

> 3 dayInstalled in my mid-2011 MacBook pro and loving how much faster and smoother its running. Absolutely worth it, instead of spending 2k on a new MacBook which now come with an SSD.

> 3 dayABSOLUTELY THE BEST UPGRADE!!! I replaced my 750GB Scorpion HDD with this Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD on my 2012 MacBook Pro and the difference is ridiculous! I cant honestly say whether startup and shutdown are any/much faster but the speed difference after startup is HUGE!! I was very skeptical going into this but I had a friend with a one-year older MacBook Pro whose HDD was failing so, at his request, I upgraded his system with this same drive and saw this same improvement...so, the next day, I bought one for this system! Now, youll notice I went down from a 750GB HDD to a 500GB SSD. I had to do that due to cost. Samsung doesnt offer a 750GB and the 1TB was well over $300 at the time of this writing. Thus, I went with the 500GB SDD and a 256GB PNY SDXC which overall saved me a little bit of money but also gave me greater file portability between systems. The installation is a snap: you WILL need a SATA III to USB cable (StarTech for ~ $11), a Torx 6 bit to change the mounting screws from the HDD over to the SSD, a very small Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the back of the MacBook Pro case, and SuperDuper! for duplicating the drive (if youre doing this upgrade on Windows instead of a Mac, you wont need SuperDuper! because Samsung includes a file migration tool for Windows with the SSD). SuperDuper! is worth the donation BUT...you can use the free version just fine if you like. Just connect the SSD to the SATAIII to USB cable and plug it in to a USB port. OS X will tell you it cant be recognized but will give the Initialize option. Click the button and the Disk Manager box appears. I choose and run First Aid just to verify the drive is ok (it takes just a few seconds). Next I choose Erase which not only erases the drive but formats it for Mac as well. If you like, you can partition the drive into several partitions here, too, but I dont usually do this on this size drive. Once that is complete, run SuperDuper! to copy from your current boot drive to the SSD. SuperDuper! will erase and format the drive again. Then the copy will begin. Mine took about 3 hours to transfer 440GB of data. Once complete, eject the SSD via OS X, shut down, physically replace the drive in the MacBook, and then power up! With this upgrade, I feel this laptop will easily last until a future OS version no longer supports it. I almost like using this system BETTER than my new MacBook Air!
