Stop thinking about which SSD to get and get this one. I waited to way to long to get this and I actually downgraded in space from my traditional HDD, but I have no regrets. This SSD is blazing fast. My 5 year old mac feels like a brand new computer again. Its just as fast, if not faster than the day I bought it. It looks really nice, the plastic feels a little cheap but who cares, itll be protected inside your computer. The install was very easy and have been running for about two weeks now. Ill update in a few months with how its doing.

This is a great hard drive and a great price! So I have resisted as long as I could and finally caved into getting one of these when I saw the sale. I wish I didnt wait, because everything is SO MUCH FASTER now. The hard drive also comes with cloning software that is very easy to use and worked like a charm.

This thing is awesome. I had a 250 SSD and just needed something bigger. This one is perfect. Price is great and the support tools that Samsung provides work really well. I was able to clone off my old drive and have the new one working in about 45 min. That includes install time too. My Windows 10 boot time is about 8 seconds with this drive. So I am pretty happy. My only suggestion is to first buy an enclosure to put this in while you clone it off. They are super cheap and get be had for under $10-$15.

This works perfectly in my laptop. Its absolutely silent, cool, and incredibly fast. My battery life improved too.

Added this to my 2-3 yr old Asus laptop. Extremely fast compared to the original hard drive. Prices are much lower on solid state than they used to be. Well worth the upgrade.

Computer runs faster than new. If youre in the market for an SSD, its 2016, you should get it. Going with a trusted brand like samsung doesnt hurt either.

TLDR: Didnt work with the enclosure, didnt work with USB/SATA cable (unless it was plain/no firmware). No warranty from Samsung in the US. No help from seller and no support on the issue from Samsung. Awesome Customer Service by Amazon and full refund for faulty product. Why one star for a bestseller SSD? Because Samsung makes me run in two serious issues with it. The first one: This SSD seems to have a bug on its firmware and if you install it in an USB/SATA enclosure, if recognized, it will produce writing errors in Windows 10. This happened to me. When I tried an iMac Time Machine backup it was aborted by Mac OS Yosemite, and the drive seemed to be dead. Ive cloned many HDDs before, so the behavior of this Samsung 850 EVO SSD was abnormal to me. Looking for help, I found an useful information at tomsHARDWARE. The article is about Samsung EVO 840 SSD not recognized by Samsung Magician and Data Migration software. The same problem occurs with the newer 850 EVO. The solution they indicated worked for me. You have to use a plain USB/SATA cable to connect the SSD. So I ordered a Startech USB 3.0 to 2.5 SATA HDD/SSD cable. It worked, the drive came back to life. But Samsung Magician cant recognize external drives. Bad functionality. Its useless if you want to know about the health of the SSD just by connecting it in an USB port. Samsung doesnt mention any restriction to enclosures in the installation instructions, nor does it include the necessary plain cable. Second issue: Because of the first issue, Ive lost a lot of time in tests, and the return window was expired at Amazon. Before finding help at tomsHARDWARE, I contacted Samsung because of the 5 years warranty of the product. But I was surprised by Samsung U.S. with a message of no warranties for this unit because the seller (High End Tech - fulfilled by Amazon), sold an European unit, and Samsung doesnt guarantee it in U.S.. They said that I should contact the European support center or the seller. Crazy!!! They are worthy of One Star. The seller said that they cant do anything because the order was fulfilled by Amazon... But when I ordered the SSD, they didnt announce that it was a NO WARRANTY product in the U.S. Fortunately Amazon has an awesome Customer Service and because of this special issue, they did a 100% refund, even after the expiration of the return window. Five stars to Amazon.

Ive been a satisfied Samsung customer for many years. Ive bought numerous video displays, appliances, computer monitors, cell phones, and computer peripherals, but Im very unhappy with the lack of support for this product. I have an 840 EVO running in a Windows 8.1 laptop. I liked it so much, I bought the 850 for another machine. The latest version of the Samsung Data Migration software hangs for hours and then fails while Analyzing Source Disk. The source disk is healthy and less than two years old. Thats when I tried to contact support. Unfortunately, Samsung evidently doesnt feel that support for this product should be more than an online FAQ and a manual. Theres no interest in helping a customer resolve a glitch with their software. No online chat. No telephone support. While my experience with Samsung products has been favorable until now, I cant help thinking that Samsung takes its customers business for granted. Theyve certainly lost mine.

One word: Wow! I have a HP 250 G5 with an i5 processor. I had upgraded it from 4gb to 12gb of RAM, and that made some differenece. Then I even bought a SSHD for it, to see if there was any improvement, no such luck. I finally gave in and bought a 500gb EVO 850. Installation was frustrating, had to work with the HP bios some and just do a fresh install of Windows. Granted, there were a few very fruatrating hours, once it was set up, it was worth every frustrating second! Boot times are crazy, anti virus and ccleaner take under 15 seconds to do a scan(while before it would be over a minute). Im very pleased and will make getting a SSD my first upgrade for every computer here on forward.

FYI, it does not come with a USB to SATA cable so if your PC doesnt have a additional drive bay, you can either purchase a cable before hand or if you have extra 2.5 external enclosures lying around, or even one occupied--that will do the trick. It was quicker for me to dismantle an occupied one vs trying to find my two spares. After that ordeal, insert the software CD, plug in your external drive and follow the instructions. The migration process will take a good few hours if you are cloning your main drive. Aside from the minor nuances, the drive performed admirably. This is my first SSD and it blew my socks off seeing how fast everything runs on my 2012 ultrabook. I have to admit, it is the best hardware upgrade I have ever purchased. Dollar to value to performance, it is worth while in all aspects. Just the system boot from off to desktop is a matter of seconds. It takes me longer to wake up :-) Any who, I plan on making multiple purchases of SSDs in the future, probably this exact one, for not only myself, but for my company use as well as friends and family. Basically, it makes a great gift and I can perform the install/setup for them if need be. If you are replacing your existing HDD, this little guy will slightly shed some off of your overall weight. Nothing you will probably notice, however, it is there. Be happy with knowing that you are confidently purchasing a quality product for a great price that really delivers!
